The breaking news by the ICC introduces the new ODI Super League for the qualification of the ODI teams for the upcoming 2023 World Cup tournament.

Yes, the new ODI Super League Championship will change the ODI cricket and it will increase the excitement and entertainment for the fans, viewers and cricket lovers.

I want to tell you that recently ICC announced the postponement of the T20 World Cup and extend the three upcoming World Cup tournaments which will give them time and introduces a new thing to ODI format just like we saw the Test Championship.

ICC Introduces New ODI Super League Tournament

The inaugural match of the new ODI Super League will take place on 30th July 2020 between the World Champion England take on the Ireland team.

There are various rules which also announced by the ICC for this new Super League. This is 13-nation one-day international league, with World Cup hosts India and the next seven highest-placed teams automatically qualifying for the 2023 edition.

The ICC’s 12 full members and the Netherlands will take part in this new ODI League tournament as they qualified in 2016.

The rules of this ODI Super League is that each side playing four home and four away three-match ODI bilateral series.

Each team who wins a match in this ODI Super League will get 10 Points after the series and if the match is tied, draw or no result then the team will get 5 Points.

At the end of the ODI Super League tournament the top 8 teams who have maximum points in the table will automatically qualify for the 2023 World Cup tournament.

The Remaining 5 teams from the ODI Super League will compete with other playing nations for the qualification round and then there will be 2 teams will qualify to compete in the TOP 10 teams of the World Cup.

The ICC said it was working with national boards to find dates for series in the new Super League to be “safely and practically rescheduled.”

“The decision last week to move the (50-over) World Cup back to late 2023 gives us more time to schedule any games lost due to COVID-19 and preserve the integrity of the qualification process, meaning it will be decided on the field of play, which is important,” said ICC general manager Geoff Allardice.
